Dynamic IP addresses
A Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server assigns IP addresses automatically to devices on a network. These IP addresses are dynamic, which means that they can change if the DHCP server reassigns the address. We configure your Genius device to accept dynamic IP addresses by default. The DHCP server may assign a new dynamic IP address to your device if one of the following happens:
- There is a disruption in network connectivity
- The DHCP server is rebooted
When the IP address of your Genius device changes, it can’t communicate with the POS. To restore communications, update your POS with the new IP address of your Genius device.
Static IP addresses
Static IP addresses are manually configured and do not change. We recommend configuring a static IP address on your Genius device if your DHCP server frequently changes assigned IP addresses.
