Dynamic IP addresses
A Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server assigns IP addresses automatically to devices on a network. These IP addresses are dynamic, which means that they can change if the DHCP server reassigns the address. We configure your Semi-Integrated device to accept dynamic IP addresses by default. The DHCP server may assign a new dynamic IP address to your device if one of the following happens:
- There is a disruption in network connectivity
- The DHCP server is rebooted
When the IP address of your Semi-Integrated device changes, it can’t communicate with the POS. To restore communications, update your POS with the new IP address of your Semi-Integrated device.
Static IP addresses
Static IP addresses are manually configured and do not change. We recommend configuring a static IP address on your Semi-Integrated device if your DHCP server frequently changes assigned IP addresses.
