    Yes. On January 14, 2022, Verifone issued an end of life notification for MX devices.
  2. When does the PCI PIN Transaction Security (PTS) status expire for MX devices?

  3. Will Verifone renew the PCI PTS status for MX devices?
    No.
  4. Can merchants continue using Genius on MX devices after the PCI PTS expiration date without jeopardizing their PCI status?
    Yes. Merchants can continue using Genius on MX devices for five years after the expiration date. However, the PCI Security Standards Council recommends that merchants replace expired devices as soon as possible to improve the overall security of the merchant environment.
    Additionally, some Genius 2.0 features are not supported on MX v3 devices. For more information, see question five.
  5. Do MX devices support Genius 2.0?
    MX v4 devices support Genius 2.0. MX v3 devices support Genius 2.0 with some limitations:
    – MX v3 devices can’t be updated beyond version 6.4.4.2, meaning that no new features or bug fixes can be installed.
    – MX v3 devices can’t support Genius 2.0 Store & Forward.
  6. Is Global Payments still deploying MX devices to merchants?
    No. Global Payments is no longer deploying MX devices. Global Payments stopped deploying MX v3 devices in January 2020, and stopped deploying MX v4 devices on 1 November 2022.
  7. Which devices will replace the MX devices?
    Verifone Engage P400, M400, and e285 devices will replace the MX devices. These devices support Genius 2.0.
  8. Is additional partner integration or certification required for Verifone Engage devices?
    No. New coding is required only for merchants using Genius 2.0 Store & Forward.
  9. Are Genius 2.0 and Verifone Engage devices P2PE validated?
    Yes.
  10. Will Global Payments swap MX devices for Verifone Engage devices?
    No. Merchants who rent or lease MX devices will need to renew their contract with Global Payments to get Verifone Engage devices.
  11. How can I find out whether I have an MX v3 or v4 device?
    Locate the part number on the back of the device. Devices with a part number beginning with M132 are v3 devices. Devices with a part number beginning with M177 are v4 devices.
  12. What should I do with my old MX device?
    Expired MX devices should not be sent back to Global Payments. We recommend recycling these devices in accordance with local e-waste practices.
