To set up your Genius M400, complete the following steps:
Part 1. Attach the cables to your Genius M400
Important: Do not attach a Power over Ethernet (POE) cable to your Genius M400. Attaching a POE cable to your Genius M400 can damage the connection ports.
To set up your Genius M400, you need to attach the following:
- Utility cable
- Ethernet cable
- 12V power adapter
To attach the cables to your Genius M400, either:

Attach the utility cable to your Genius M400
The utility cable is an extension cable that you can use to connect the power cable and Ethernet cable to your Genius M400. To attach the utility cable to your Genius M400, complete the following steps:
Step 1. Turn your Genius M400 upside–down and place it on a flat, stable surface.
Step 2. Remove the rear cover by sliding it up and lifting it off.
Step 3. Attach the utility cable to your Genius M400 by inserting the USB-C connector into the USB-C port.
Step 4. Position the USB-C cable in the back of your device, make sure the cable is in the groove above the USB-C port. Slide the rear cover onto your device until it clicks.
Attach the Ethernet cable to the utility cable
The Ethernet cable connects your Genius M400 to your router, so that your Genius M400 can connect to the internet and to your POS.
To attach the Ethernet cable to the utility cable, complete the following steps:
Step 1. Insert one end of the Ethernet cable into an available port on your router or switch.
Step 2. Insert the other end of the Ethernet cable into the ETHER port on the utility cable.
Attach the power adapter to the utility cable
The 12V power adapter connects your Genius M400 to a power source. To attach the 12V power adapter to the utility cable, complete the following steps:
Step 1. Insert the 12V power adapter into the 12V DC port on the utility cable.
Step 2. Plug the 12V power adapter into a power socket. Your Genius M400 should turn on.
Part 2. Configure your POS to work with your Genius M400
Your POS can communicate with your Genius M400 using either an IP address or a host name. Consult with your POS provider to determine which of the following options you should use:
Option 1. IP address– An IP address is a unique address that allows devices to communicate with each other. By default, your Genius M400 uses a dynamic IP address. If your IP address changes often, or if your POS requires a static IP address, you can set a static IP address on your Genius M400.

Option 2. Host name– A host name is a unique name we give to your Genius M400. To find the host name for your Genius M400, complete the following steps:
Step 1. From the home screen, use the keypad to press 000.
Step 2.Type the password and then press Enter. The default password is 9416557. The host name displays on the Admin Overview screen.
To configure your POS, you need the following:
- Your Merchantware credentials, including your:
– Merchantware name
– Site ID
