How do I set up my Genius e285?

Note: To help prevent issues with your Genius e285, we recommend that you do the following:

  • Charge your Genius e285 when you aren’t using it.
  • Keep your Genius e285 within range of the router.
  • Connect your Genius e285 only to secure networks.

To set up your Genius e285, complete the following steps:

Turn on your Genius e285

To turn on your Genius e285, complete the following steps:

    1. Insert the USB-C end of your USB cable into your Genius e285.
    2. Insert the USB-A end of your USB cable into your power adapter.Image that shows USB-C end being inserted into e285 device and USB-A end being inserted into power adapter
    3. Plug your power adapter into a power socket. Your Genius e285 should turn on.
  • If your Genius e285 does not turn on, hold the Enter button for at least four seconds.
Note: Before you continue to set up your Genius e285, we recommend that you charge it overnight.

Connect your Genius e285 to your network

You can connect your e285 to your network using one of the following connection types:

Wi-Fi

Important: If you are not using our Meet in the Cloud solution, connect your e285 to the same network as your POS.
Find your network
  1. Use the keypad to press 1, 5, and 9 at the same time.
  2. Tap Com Control. Select the Genius icon to return to the device's home screen
  3. Tap WiFi.
  4. Tap Configuration, and then use the keypad to type the password. The default password is 200331.
  5. Tap OK.
  6. Tap WiFi Scan.
Connect to your network
  1. From the list of networks, tap the network you want to connect to.
  2. Tap Add.
  3. Select the type of authentication that your network uses. If you don’t know the type of authentication your network uses, contact your network administrator.
  4. Enter your network details. The details you need to enter depend on whether you chose pre-shared key (PSK) authentication or extensible authentication protocol (EAP) authentication.
    a. For PSK authentication, in the Pre-Shared-Key (PSK) field, enter the authentication password.
    b. For EAP authentication, enter the following:
    i. Identity
    ii. Password

  5. Tap OK.
  6. Tap Save, and then tap OK.
  7. Tap Yes.
  8. Tap OK.
Apply your settings and return to the home screen
  1. Tap .
  2. Tap Exit, and then tap Yes.
  3. Tap Genius.

Bluetooth

Pair your e285 with your POS to share your POS’ network connection with your e285.

Important: Make sure that your POS supports Bluetooth network sharing. This functionality could be called “Tethering” or “’Hotspot” depending on whether your POS runs on Android, Windows, or iOS.
  1. Turn on or restart your e285 to begin the three-minute pairing window.
  2. Wait until you see the home screen.
  3. On your POS, do a Bluetooth scan.
  4. From the list of available Bluetooth devices, select your Verifone e285 device.
  5. Confirm any pairing prompts that appear on your e285 or POS.

Check your connection

Wi-Fi

  1. Use the keypad to press 1, 5, and 9 at the same time.
  2. Tap Com Control.
  3. Tap WiFi
  4. Tap Status.
  5. Confirm that the Status field shows “Up.” If the Status field shows “Down,” contact our Genius Support Team.
  6. Make a note of the IP address as you will need it to configure your POS.

Bluetooth

  1. Use the keypad to press 1, 5, and 9 at the same time.
  2. Tap Com Control.
  3. Tap More. 
  4. Tap Status.
  5. Tap IP Addresses.
  6. Tap BT LAN.
  7. Confirm that the Status field shows “Up.” If the Status field shows “Down,” contact our Genius Support Team.
  8. Make a note of the IP address as you will need it to configure your POS.

Configure your POS

To configure your POS, you need the following information:

  1. Your Merchantware credentials, including your:
    – Merchantware name
    – Site ID
    – Authentication key
  2. The IP address of your Genius e285.

Test a transaction

Run a test transaction on your POS to make sure you correctly configured it with your Genius e285.

  • If the test transaction successfully transfers to your Genius e285, cancel the test transaction and start running live sales.
  • If the test transaction doesn’t successfully transfer, contact our Genius Support Team.
