How do I set up my Genius Handheld?

To set up your Genius Handheld, do the following:

  1. Insert your battery into your Genius Handheld
  2. Connect your Genius Handheld to your network
  3. Update the date and time of your Genius Handheld
  4. Update the Genius application
  5. Configure your POS to work with your Genius Handheld

Part 1. Insert your battery into your Genius Handheld

Important: If your battery shows any sign of damage, do not use it and contact our Genius Support Team.

Step 1. Check the surface of your battery is clean.
Step 2. Remove the rear battery cover by sliding it down until it clicks and then lift it off.

Step 3. Insert your battery by aligning the three gold contacts on the top of your battery with the contacts in your Genius Handheld. Press down on your battery until it clicks.

Step 4. Replace the rear battery cover and slide it up until it clicks. Check that the cover is secure before charging and turning on your Genius Handheld.

Step 5. Press and hold the Power button on the top of the device to turn on your Genius Handheld.

Part 2. Connect your Genius Handheld to your network

Step 1. From the home screen, tap Icon to access the Menu..
Step 2. Tap Settings icon to access the settings menu. and then tap Wi-Fi.
Step 3. Check Wi-Fi is turned on and select your wireless network.

Step 4. Type your wireless network password and then tap Connect.
Step 5. To return to the home screen, tap Icon to go back to previous screen..

Part 3. Update the date and time of your Genius Handheld

Step 1. From the home screen, tap Icon to access the Menu..
Step 2. Tap Settings icon to access the settings menu.  and then swipe up and tap Date & time.

Step 3. On the Date & time menu, tap Automatic date & time.

Step 4. Select Use network-provided time.

Step 5. Tap to Icon to go back to previous screen. return to the Date & time menu and then tap Select time zone.

Step 6. On the Select time zone menu, swipe up or down through the time zone options and select your time zone.
Step 7. To return to the home screen, tap Icon to go back to previous screen..

Part 4. Update the Genius application

Step 1. From the home screen, open the Cayan Files app.
Step 2. Tap Ellipses to update Genius Handheld app. and select Update Repos.

 Select Update Repos.

Step 3. If an update is available, tap Update and then tap Install.

Part 5. Configure your POS to work with your Genius Handheld

Your POS communicates with your Genius Handheld using either a static IP address or a dynamic IP address. Consult with your POS provider to determine which type of IP address you should use. To configure your POS, you need the following:

  • Your Merchantware credentials, including the following:

– Merchantware name
– Site ID
– Authentication key
