Dynamic IP addresses
A Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server assigns IP addresses automatically to devices on a network. These IP addresses are dynamic because the DHCP server can reassign the addresses. We configure your Genius device to accept dynamic IP addresses by default.
The DHCP server may assign a new dynamic IP address if one of the following happens:
- There is a disruption in network connectivity
- The DHCP server is rebooted
When the IP address of your Genius device changes, it cannot communicate with the POS. To restore communications, update your POS with the new IP address of your Genius device.
Static IP addresses
Static IP addresses are manually configured and do not change. We recommend configuring a static IP address on your Genius device if your DHCP server frequently changes assigned IP addresses.
