How do I set up my Genius Countertop?

To set up your Genius Countertop, complete the following steps:

Part 1. Attach the cables to your Genius Countertop

Important: Do not attach a Power over Ethernet (POE) cable to your Genius Countertop. Attaching a POE cable to your Genius Countertop can damage the connection ports.

To set up your Genius Countertop, you need to attach the following:

  • Multiport cable
  • 12V power adapter
  • Network cable

Attach the multiport cable to your Genius Countertop

The multiport cable is an extension cable that you can use to connect the power cable and network cable to your Genius Countertop. To attach the multiport cable to your Genius Countertop, either:

Option 1. Complete the steps in the following video:

Option 2. Complete the following steps:

Step 1. Turn your Genius Countertop upside–down and place it on a flat, stable surface.
Step 2. Firmly press the flexible tabs and push up to remove the communications module.

Step 3. Securely hold the communications module and slide out the metal plate.

Step 4. Attach the multiport cable to the communications module and refit the metal plate by sliding it into place.

Step 5. Slide the communications module back into your Genius Countertop until both flexible tabs click.

Attach the power adapter to the multiport cable

The 12V power adapter connects your Genius Countertop to a power source. To attach the 12V power adapter to the multiport cable, complete the following steps:
Step 1. Make sure that the communications module is correctly inserted into your Genius Countertop.
Step 2. Insert the 12V power adapter into the +12VDC port on the multiport cable.
Step 3. Plug the 12V power adapter into a power socket. Your Genius Countertop should turn on.
If your Genius Countertop does not turn on, contact our Genius Support Team.

Attach the network cable to the multiport cable

The network cable connects your Genius Countertop to your router, so that your Genius Countertop can connect to the Internet and to your POS. To attach the network cable to the multiport cable, complete the following steps:
Step 1. Insert one end of the network cable into an available port on your router or switch.

Part 2. Configure your POS to work with your Genius Countertop

Your POS can communicate with your Genius Countertop using either an IP address or a host name. Consult with your POS provider to determine which of the following methods you should use:

Option 1. IP address– An IP address is a unique address that allows devices to communicate with each other. By default, your Genius Countertop uses a dynamic IP address. If your IP address changes often, or if your POS requires a static IP address, you can set a static IP address on your Genius Countertop.

Option 2. Host name– A host name is a unique name we give to your Genius Countertop.To find the host name for your Genius Countertop, complete the following steps:
Step 1. From the home screen, use the keypad to press 000.
Step 2.Type the password and then press Enter. The default password is 9416557.

To configure your POS, you need the following:

  • Your Merchantware credentials, including your:

– Merchantware name

– Site ID

– Authentication key

  • The IP address or host name of your Genius Countertop
Note: We recommend you attach the cables directly to the multiport cable of your Genius Countertop. However, you can also attach the cables directly to the communications module on your Genius Countertop.
