can run an authorization:
- Merchant Manager
- Merchant Clerk
- Virtual Terminal Manager
- Virtual Terminal Clerk
- Virtual Terminal Only
An authorization is a feature that temporarily holds funds on a customer’s account until you want to take the payment. For example, an e-Commerce store can’t take payment for goods until it has shipped the item, so it runs an authorization to reserve the cost of the goods. When you want to take the funds from the customer’s account, you need to capture the payment.
To run an authorization on a card, complete the following steps:
Step 1. Click the Virtual Terminal tab.
Step 2. Click the Terminal drop-down menu and select the terminal you want to use for the sale.
Step 3. Click the Charge Type drop-down menu and select Offline Capture.
Step 4. Enter the Auth Approval Code. The code must be six alphanumeric characters.
Step 5. Click the Entry Mode drop-down menu and select either:
- Keyed – You are manually entering the card details.
- Swiped – You are using a magnetic-stripe reader to read the card details.
Step 6. (Optional) If you selected Keyed, click the Is the card present? down-down menu and select either:
Step 7. Complete the fields for Order Information.
: When completing the Order Information fields, remember the following:
- Do not include spaces in the Card Number field.
- You must complete fields marked with an * (asterisk).
Step 8. (Optional) Complete the fields for Customer Information.
Step 9. Click RUN TRANSACTION.
Step 10. (Optional) Print the receipt or email it to the customer.
