{"id":48,"date":"2019-07-31T09:20:30","date_gmt":"2019-07-31T09:20:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pages.globalpaymentsintegrated.com\/helpcenter2020\/1\/how-can-i-avoid-chargebacks\/"},"modified":"2021-06-09T13:15:01","modified_gmt":"2021-06-09T13:15:01","slug":"how-can-i-avoid-chargebacks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/help.globalpaymentsintegrated.com\/1\/getting-started\/how-can-i-avoid-chargebacks\/","title":{"rendered":"How can I avoid chargebacks?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It is important that you take actions to help prevent chargebacks because:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Your processor charges you a fee for each chargeback you receive.<\/li>\n<li>Multiple chargebacks may result in compliance issues.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"notice notice\"><strong>Note:<\/strong> Taking action to prevent chargebacks does not guarantee that you won\u2019t receive any chargebacks.<\/div>\n<p>To help prevent chargebacks, we recommend you follow these best practices:<br \/>\n<span><br \/>\nDo:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Make sure your merchant descriptor matches the name of your business so that it displays correctly on the cardholder\u2019s statement<\/li>\n<li>Check the expiration date of a cardholder\u2019s card to make sure it has not expired<\/li>\n<li>Get another form of payment if the cardholder\u2019s card is declined<\/li>\n<li>Confirm you received a valid authorization before running all transactions<\/li>\n<li>Run all transactions using the correct currency<\/li>\n<li>Make sure your receipts show the correct currency<\/li>\n<li>Tell the cardholder about your refund policy and cancelation policy at the time of the transaction<\/li>\n<li>Issue refunds to the cardholder in a timely manner<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Don&#8217;t:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Make any adjustments to the transaction documentation after the transaction without consulting the cardholder and obtaining their agreement<\/li>\n<li>Use the cardholder\u2019s payment details to recover a dollar amount from previous chargebacks, bad checks, or any other incidents where a financial loss occurs<\/li>\n<li>Force an authorization by lowering the amount or altering any of the transaction details<\/li>\n<li>Manually enter the transaction or call to get a voice authorization after you receive a \u201cDecline\u201d response<\/li>\n<li>Batch out the same transaction multiple times<\/li>\n<li>Continue to charge the cardholder\u2019s account after you receive a chargeback<\/li>\n<li>Run a transaction more than seven days after you receive a voice authorization<\/li>\n<li>Refund the cardholder for a transaction they have disputed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It is important that you take actions to help prevent chargebacks because: Your processor charges you a fee for each chargeback you receive.
