{"id":400,"date":"2021-02-09T17:46:14","date_gmt":"2021-02-09T17:46:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pages.globalpaymentsintegrated.com\/helpcenter2020\/1\/how-do-i-set-up-my-genius-e285\/"},"modified":"2025-05-28T14:00:09","modified_gmt":"2025-05-28T14:00:09","slug":"how-do-i-set-up-my-e285","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/help.globalpaymentsintegrated.com\/1\/payment-devices\/semi-integrated\/e285\/how-do-i-set-up-my-e285\/","title":{"rendered":"How do I set up my e285 device?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"notice\"><strong>Note<\/strong>: To help prevent issues with your Semi-Integrated e285 we recommend that you do the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Charge your Semi-Integrated e285 when you aren\u2019t using it.<\/li>\n<li>Keep your Semi-Integrated e285 within range of the router.<\/li>\n<li>Connect your Semi-Integrated e285 only to secure networks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>To set up your Semi-Integrated e285, complete the following steps:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#turnon\">Turn on your Semi-Integrated e285<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#connectyour\">Connect your Semi-Integrated e285 to your network<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#checkyour\">Check your connection<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#configureyour\">Configure your POS<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#test\">Test a transaction<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 id=\"turnon\">Turn on your Genius e285<\/h3>\n<p>To turn on your Semi-Integrated e285, complete the following steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ol>\n<li>Insert the USB-C end of your USB cable into your Semi-Integrated e285.<\/li>\n<li>Insert the USB-A end of your USB cable into your power adapter.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1686 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/help.globalpaymentsintegrated.com\/1\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2021\/02\/e285-usb-c.png\" alt=\"Image that shows USB-C end being inserted into e285 device and USB-A end being inserted into power adapter\" width=\"214\" height=\"252\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Plug your power adapter into a power socket. Your Semi-Integrated e285 should turn on.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>If your Genius e285 does not turn on, hold the <strong>Enter<\/strong> button for at least four seconds.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"notice notice-info\"><strong>Note:<\/strong> Before you continue to set up your Semi-Integrated e285, we recommend that you charge it overnight.<\/div>\n<h3 id=\"connectyour\">Connect your Genius e285 to your network<\/h3>\n<p>You can connect your e285 to your network using one of the following connection types:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/help.globalpaymentsintegrated.com\/1\/payment-devices\/genius\/e285\/how-do-i-set-up-my-genius-e285\/#Wi-Fi\">Wi-Fi<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/help.globalpaymentsintegrated.com\/1\/payment-devices\/genius\/e285\/how-do-i-set-up-my-genius-e285\/#Bluetooth\">Bluetooth<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"notice\"><strong>Note:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Your device is configured to receive a dynamic IP address by default. If you need to configure a static IP address, see <a href=\"https:\/\/help.globalpaymentsintegrated.com\/1\/payment-devices\/genius\/e285\/how-do-i-connect-my-genius-e285-to-my-network-using-a-static-ip-address\/\">How do I configure a static IP address on my Semi-Integrated e285?<\/a><\/li>\n<li>If you see \u201cPower Interface?\u201d on-screen, tap <strong>Yes.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h4 id=\"Wi-Fi\">Wi-Fi<\/h4>\n<div class=\"notice notice-danger\"><strong>Important:<\/strong> If you are not using our Meet in the Cloud solution, connect your e285 to the same network as your POS.<\/div>\n<h5>Find your network<\/h5>\n<ol>\n<li>Use the keypad to press <b>1<\/b>, <b>5<\/b>, and <b>9<\/b> at the same time.<\/li>\n<li>Tap <b>Com Control<\/b>. <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1502 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/help.globalpaymentsintegrated.com\/1\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2022\/09\/Com-Control-menu.png\" alt=\"Select the Genius icon to return to the device's home screen\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Tap <b>WiFi<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li>Tap <b>Configuration, <\/b>and then use the keypad to type the password. The default password is <b>200331<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li>Tap <b>OK<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li>Tap <b>WiFi<\/b> <b>Scan.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h5>Connect to your network<\/h5>\n<ol>\n<li>From the list of networks, tap the network you want to connect to.<\/li>\n<li>Tap <b>Add.<\/b><\/li>\n<li>Select the type of authentication that your network uses. If you don\u2019t know the type of authentication your network uses, contact your network administrator.<\/li>\n<li>Enter your network details. The details you need to enter depend on whether you chose pre-shared key (PSK) authentication or extensible authentication protocol (EAP) authentication.<br \/>\na. For PSK authentication, in the <b>Pre-Shared-Key (PSK)<\/b> field, enter the authentication password.<br \/>\nb. This functionality could be called \u201cTethering\u201d or \u201c&#8217;Hotspot\u201d depending on whether your POS runs on Android, Windows, or iOS.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/div>\n<ol>\n<li>Turn on or restart your e285 to begin the three-minute pairing window.<\/li>\n<li>Wait until you see the home screen.<\/li>\n<li>On your POS, do a Bluetooth scan.<\/li>\n<li>From the list of available Bluetooth devices, select your Verifone e285 device.<\/li>\n<li>Confirm any pairing prompts that appear on your e285 or POS.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3 id=\"checkyour\">Check your connection<\/h3>\n<h4>Wi-Fi<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Use the keypad to press <b>1<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">,<\/span><b> 5<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, and <\/span><b>9<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> at the same time.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Tap <b>Com Control<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Tap <b>WiFi<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Tap <b>Status<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Confirm that the Status field shows \u201cUp.\u201d <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If the Status field shows \u201cDown,\u201d contact our<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/service.globalpaymentsintegrated.com\/s\/#Genius\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0Support Team.<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Make a note of the IP address as you will need it to configure your POS.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h4>Bluetooth<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Use the keypad to press <b>1, 5,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><b>9<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> at the same time.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Tap <b>Com Control.<\/b><\/li>\n<li>Tap <b>More.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li>Tap <b>Status.<\/b><\/li>\n<li>Tap <b>IP Addresses<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Tap <b> BT LAN.<\/b><\/li>\n<li>Confirm that the Status field shows \u201cUp.\u201d If the Status field shows \u201cDown,\u201d contact our <a href=\"https:\/\/service.globalpaymentsintegrated.com\/s\/#Genius\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0Support Team.<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Make a note of the IP address as you will need it to configure your POS.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3 id=\"configureyour\">Configure your POS<\/h3>\n<p>To configure your POS, you need the following information:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Your <a href=\"https:\/\/help.globalpaymentsintegrated.com\/1\/payment-devices\/genius\/i-cant-find-my-merchantware-credentials-what-do-i-do\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Merchantware credentials<\/a>, including your:<br \/>\n\u2013 Merchantware name<br \/>\n\u2013 Site ID<br \/>\n\u2013 Authentication key<\/li>\n<li>The IP address of your Semi-Integrated e285.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3 id=\"test\">Test a transaction<\/h3>\n<p>Run a test transaction on your POS to make sure you correctly configured it with your Semi-Integrated e285.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If the test transaction successfully transfers to your Semi-Integrated e285 cancel the test transaction and start running live sales.<\/li>\n<li>If the test transaction doesn\u2019t successfully transfer, contact our <a href=\"https:\/\/help.globalpaymentsintegrated.com\/account-management\/contact-us\/#Genius\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Support Team<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Note: To help prevent issues with your Semi-Integrated e285 we recommend that you do the following: Charge your Semi-Integrated e285 when you aren\u2019t using it.
